Alegria is an exciting, sophisticated and versatile duo with a Latin twist. It can expand to a trio or quartet with percussion, bass or guitar. Both lead singer Penny and vocalist, keyboardist and saxophonist Martin are consummate musicians and performers with years of experience. They can provide anything from smooth jazz and ballads to dynamic dance sets featuring a huge range of music from 50’s rock’n’roll through soul, funk, Motown, disco, pop hits from the 60’s to the most recent.
Latin Music
Add to this Martin’s experience living in Spain and his repertoire of Latin dance songs, sung in fluent Spanish and Portuguese and you have a fantastic array of music that will keep everyone happy. Ballroom dance aficianados will be especially in their element as Alegria reel off a samba, followed by some salsa, merengue, cha cha, tango, jive, waltz and even a fox trot for the oldies!
Song Lists
The array of songs at their disposal is simply awesome and you can tailor your wedding entertainment around songs you love and think your friends/family will also enjoy. Martin also knows plenty of International songs from e.g. France, Italy, Russia, Greece and especially Irish, English and Scottish folk songs and is more than happy to learn new songs for your special day. Even better if it’s something out of the ordinary!
MC, DJ and Wedding Ceremony music ….. even “Live Karaoke”!
Alegria can also provide :
- professional MC services.
- wedding ceremony music – featuring either singing or just instrumental including organ music for the ceremony.
- “Live Karaoke” – just a splash of this at a wedding can be fun and by this we mean you jump up and join us singing your favourite song or just add to the chorus while Penny ór Martin sings.
- DJ services if desired to get the dance floor humming with whatever music takes your fancy.

Children and Seniors
Both Martin and Penny have worked extensively in children’s entertainment and Martin has done seniors’ sing-alongs which just adds to the versatility of Alegria who can entertain any age group, which is great for weddings of mixed ages!
Live Backings
Another feature of this talented duo is that Martin creates most of the backings live on his keyboard which provides amazing versatility – especially if dancers are in the groove and just don’t want a song to end! Then he can switch to the saxophone to vary the sound for some Motown, blues or R&B. When they do use backing tracks they are top class professional tracks usually re-mixed and edited in Martin’s home studio.
